Breaking Occult Spells: Protection from Witchcraft and Occult Influences (book by Eric Gondwe, BMC, MBA, DD)

Chapter 3: Major Categories of Occult Groups from a Christian Perspective

The occult world in its extreme diversity can be narrowed into three categories from a Christian perspective:

1. Christian occult & paganism, and occult infiltration into Christianity
A. Christian occult practices and Christian paganism

B. Infiltration into Christianity by members from occult groups

2. The harmless occult world: harmless to other people
A. Religions that are not Judeo-Christian

B. White witchcraft with its traditional occult practices

3. Satanism, the harmful or evil occult world: harmful to other people
A. General black witchcraft with occult groups not bound to evil spirits

B. Satanism black witchcraft with occult groups consciously bound to evil spirits

In each of these three types there are numerous groups that can be called sub- groups, sub-sub- groups, and so on. The occult is the most diverse spiritual grouping varying in thousands of groups. If you thought the body of Christ was diverse think again. The diversity in Christianity is a drop in a bucket compared to the diversity in the occult. Many share some similarities yet are totally different in their perspectives, focus, goals and objectives. The three broad types given here only serve to show their level of harm to other people and their infiltration into Christianity.

1. Christian occult & paganism, and occult infiltration into Christianity

There are two broad sub-categories as the title suggests:
A. Christian occult practices and Christian paganism

B. Infiltration into Christianity by members from occult groups

A. Christian occult practices and Christian paganism

Christian occult practices and Christian paganism is simply the adoption of occult practices and religious beliefs that have no biblical basis. It is Christians who out of being deceived or for lack of knowledge end up adopting practices from occult groups.

As evangelicals it is customary for us to bash the Roman Catholic Church as the biggest culprit of embracing pagan practices. However we have our own logs to clear in our own evangelical camp.

Needless to say that the Catholic Church are by far the super heavyweights of Christianity in embracing pagan practices, including the ones the bible explicitly forbids. These include adoption of graven images in form of pictures, sculptures, and paintings.

A Catholic ministry known as Most Holy Family Monastery has tones of resources explaining how the Catholic Church became so contaminated with non-Christian beliefs. Their website is at MostHolyFamilyMonastery.com where you’ll also find free video and audio downloads on Catholic infiltration by Freemasonry.

It’s a blessing to see people within Roman Catholicism stepping up to reveal the mess around them. It’s better than being done by us outsiders from evangelical and protestant circles. We’ve our own mess to clean up, including false teachings that are increasingly infiltrating into our long-established doctrinal beliefs.

Christian occult practices and Christian paganism encompass both categories of the occult definition. Here is the definition just to recap:

The occult from a Christian perspective is firstly, any practice, activity or entity which serves the role for tapping into the spirit world that is outside the biblically authorized spirit realm. Secondly, it is any practice, activity or entity which has spiritual symbolic value that is outside the biblically authorized spiritual practices or activities.

Most pagan practices do not condemn Christians practicing them to end up in hell. They primarily work to compromise their walk with God. Christians who knowingly practice activities that highly tap into the spirit world like tarot cards grieve the Holy Spirit and ultimately risk his departure.

These include astrology through reading of horoscopes, carrying of objects and pictures in churches that supposedly represent Jesus (and Mary), embracing superstitious beliefs like “lucky” charms, practicing non-biblical beliefs on numbers, colors, times, time cycles, dates, and other symbols, and so on.

Astrology is the belief that the heavenly bodies influence events on earth and in people’s lives. This encompasses reading of horoscopes. The bible says, “Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the sky, though the nations are terrified by them,” Jeremiah 10:2.

Christians who knowingly practice activities that highly tap into the spirit world like tarot cards grieve the Holy Spirit and ultimately risk his departure. The practices make believers to be involved with other spirits other than the Spirit of God. This is defined as idolatry, an abomination to God (Exodus 20:4). Sins of idolatry are no small matter to God. “Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins,” James 4:17.

Some types of symbolism from the occult world seem not to be of any concern in affecting a person's walk with God.  However, they are still not worth embracing. They are not Christian practices. They are pagan practices with pagan spiritual symbolic value.

B. Infiltration into Christianity by members from occult groups

Occult infiltration into Christianity is the infiltration of people from occult groups into Christianity. It is people from the occult world entering Christian circles, particularly leadership and influential positions, with a hidden agenda against Christianity.

There are many false teachings that have marks of people in the occult trying to destroy Christianity from within. The most prominent among them include the materialism “gospel” that has worldliness packaged with a Christian face by using selective bible verses that are itchy to our ears. Another is the homosexual “gospel,” that God loves us all and accepts each person the way he/she is unconditionally.

These are largely marks of people in the occult trying to destroy Christianity from within. Once the core foundational bases of Christianity are destroyed Christianity loses its power to change people’s lives. In the materialism “gospel” there are some preachers that are merely wolfs in sheep’s clothing. They are therefore not sheep (Christians) but are wolfs preying on innocent Christians with their teachings of worldliness.

The big wolves are those in the homosexual “gospel.” They have been fighting to force their teachings on Christianity for decades. So far a few denominations have succumbed and are now ordaining gay pastors. We’re also seeing a rise in gay musicians in Christian music. They work from the top influential positions in order to choke Christianity’s spiritual power.

Is this just a mere development of an evolving church? Certainly not. It’s a calculated effort from those in the occult to silently chock Christianity.

Why would people whose behavior is strictly forbidden in the bible continue insisting to have their way into Christianity? It’s not because they love Christianity so much that they’re desperate to change the rules to be accepted. It’s because changing the rules ends up contaminating Christianity with teachings that permit sodomy. It’s one knock-out blow against Christianity. True Christianity would have been destroyed from within. It would mark the beginning of its total powerlessness, with the Holy Spirit grieved enough to depart.

What if the bible said people of a certain ethnic group, race or gender were not acceptable even if biologically they just found themselves in such a makeup? If I found myself to be in the denied ethnic or gender category I would not waste my time trying to change what it says in clear black and white terms. I would move on and join a religion or belief that welcomes me. I’d make no protests because the bible, like any religious script, has a right to say what it wants as long as those who believe in it do not come to trespass over my own basic freedoms.

This is not what is happening among some embracing homosexuality – particularly among some in Western countries. Some of them deny what the bible clearly says and are furious with those that say the bible condemns the behavior. They want to be recognized as Christians without changing the behavior the bible categorizes as sin.

To me it seems more sensible, dignifying and respectful of other people’s beliefs to seek another belief that’s accepting rather than trying to forcefully change their beliefs just to be accepted.

Herein lies a major clue that there is a hidden agenda behind trying to forcefully change Christianity to accept homosexuality. Some occult groups are endeavoring to infiltrate and destroy Christianity in the quietest way possible. This homosexuality “gospel,” represents one of their biggest weapon. By God’s grace they will not succeed. May we also be strong enough in doing our part to enable God in overcoming their treacherous and ferocious works.

“I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it,” Matthew 16:18.

“Everyone born of God overcomes the world…Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God,” 1 John 5:4-5.

2. The harmless occult world: harmless to other people

I hope you know what I mean by the title: “The harmless occult world: harmless to other people.” It’s not to authenticate them as good occult groups that Christians can safely belong to. By no means no. The street word is “hell no,” or “no way.” So please stay away from them.

Rather it is to say there is a category of the occult world whose motive is not to go out and take advantage of people, or to exploit people, or cause terrible things to happen to others so that their wishes are met, and so on. This category of the occult world is harmless to other people.

The harmless occult world has two broad sub-categories or sub-groups:
A. Religions that are not Judeo-Christian

B. White witchcraft with its traditional occult practices

A. Religions that are not Judeo-Christian

Most of these harmless occult groups are mainly religions in this world that are not Judeo-Christian. For not being either Jewish or Christian these religions end up falling in the same category of cults.

Epictetus, a famous Greek philosopher, once said, “All religions must be tolerated... for every man must get to heaven in his own way.”

The religions that constitute decent and harmless religious are preoccupied with doing good in this life. Their rituals and beliefs are not about harming other people. Some like Islam, believe in afterlife existence after one dies. This is basically what we believe as Christians that there is a heaven God has prepared for us.

Others like Hinduism, Buddhism, and Sikhism, believe in reincarnation. Reincarnation is the belief that the spirit of a living being, upon the death of the body, returns to the earth in another body or form. People who do evil return in an inferior form depending on the evil they did. So they work to do good in order to avoid coming back as an animal, like a hated cockroach or mosquito.

Vegetarianism is practiced in many sects of these religions. Where vegetarianism is practiced eating animals is seen as eating people who just ended up coming back in an inferior form.

Many Native American religions are admired for their friendship with nature and dislike for materialism. If the Native American religions ruled the world instead of the greedy and evil cults in power today we world not be having pollution and environmental problems. The evil cults in power today are now resorting to drastically reducing the world population to address the growing pollution and environmental problems. More on this topic later.

Other harmless occult groups like some in Africa and in America (continent) are preoccupied with spirits of the dead. The dead literally rule their lives. Many have a mediator or spiritual leader that people can go to and consult on what the dead want to ensure things go well for them. This is known as necromancy, a close cousin to divination.

B. White witchcraft with its traditional occult practices

The harmless occult groups that practice most of the activities traditionally associated with the occult world are sometimes known as white witchcraft (also called white magic or white sorcery). This is to contrast it with black witchcraft which is evil. The color association has nothing to with race –just semantics (language). Needless to say that even racial descriptions are semantic too, with nothing to do with dermatology principles. White witchcraft occult groups’ activities are not directed at harming people but at themselves in doing good and becoming better persons.

Activities and practices traditionally associated with the occult world are grouped in three by Jeff Harshbarger, a former Satanist now in Christ. Here is a recap. Harshbarger says, “All of the occult practices fall into one or a combination of these three categories:

“Magick (sorcery)
Manipulation and control of people, nature, and circumstances through the knowledge and control of the spirit world…

“Divination (fortune-telling)
Seeking hidden knowledge not easily available to humans. For example: astrology (horoscopes) and reading your horoscope in an attempt to find out what your future holds…

“Spiritism (necromancy)
Contact with the unknown in order to gain desired knowledge. For example: John Edwards and Sylvia Brown, mediums between the living and the dead…” (Jeff Harshbarger, From Darkness to Light, Chapter 12, “General Overview of the Occult,” page 79-80).

White witchcraft occult groups’ use any one or a combination of the above three categories not for harming people but for themselves in attempting to make life better for themselves. The most prominent white witchcraft occult group in USA and the Western world is known as Wicca. Wicca is officially recognized as a religion in some western countries, like USA.

A commandment or rule called the “Rede” is at the heart of Wiccan beliefs: “An ye harm none, do what you will.” It means do whatever you want as long as you do not harm anyone. The earth is the goddess of Wicca. Thus nature plays a central in their beliefs.

3. Satanism, the harmful or evil occult world: harmful to other people

Contrasting black witchcraft with white witchcraft, and outlining the two of sub-categories of black witchcraft

As seen in category 2 above, people in white witchcraft knowingly submit to and summon evil spirits to fulfill their desires in decent and harmless ways to other people. They generally do not look at evil spirits in the spirit realm as being evil. Most have a working conscience that guides their moral decisions to not pursue evil occult practices. This is why it’s easier for people in white witchcraft to convert to Christianity than it is for people in black witchcraft.

People in white witchcraft see evil spirits as merely spirits that are accessible because the Supreme Being (God) provided them to serve those who wish to use them to fulfill their desires –good or bad. Thus it is the person who is to be judged as evil or good. The spirits only respond to the person who wishes to use them for good purposes or for evil purposes. This is how many groups in white witchcraft see it.

People in white witchcraft are also not bound to the spirits they submit to and summon. They submit to them only to the extent that they follow the rituals and principles required for the spirits to fulfill what is being requested. They are not servants to the spirits. Rather the spirits are their servants.

Black witchcraft has two broad sub-categories:
Sub-category one: General black witchcraft with occult groups not bound to evil spirits

This category of black witchcraft consists of occult groups that are not bound to the spirits they submit to and summon. Like in white witchcraft, they submit to them only to the extent that they follow the rituals and principles required for the spirits to fulfill what is being requested. They are not servants to the spirits. Rather the spirits are their servants.

Sub-category two: Satanism black witchcraft with occult groups consciously bound to evil spirits

This category of black witchcraft consists of occult groups that are bound to the spirits they submit to and summon. They submit to them and follow the rituals and principles required for the spirits to fulfill what is being requested. They are servants to the spirits. The highest spirit among the spirits they are servants to is Satan. They knowingly serve Satan as their master. This is why they are called Satanists.

Most black witchcraft occult groups in sub-category two have various gods they serve. They also have different perspectives of these gods. For example it is said that Freemasons in high ranks view Satan as God’s friend who has his evil work to fulfill in this world.

In this case they do know there is a God out their but their perspective of Satan is that he’s a friend, not an enemy of God. Thus for them to being partners with Satan is seen as nothing evil since Satan must fulfill his work that God has allowed. Masons in high ranks feel they will be rewarded by God for being instruments of Satan for his work that needed to be fulfilled.

This is one version of an understanding of high ranking of Freemasonry. It’s not all true since Freemasons, like all secret societies, extremely guard their secretes with deep occult oaths. The little that is revealed in books of people who claim to have escaped Freemasonry is a drop in a bucket compared to the hidden truths.

In addition, seeing Freemasonry from the view of lower ranking Free Masons is a smokescreen or cover-up for what goes on in high places. Lower ranking Free Masonry is basically white witchcraft. Few would have problems with Freemasonry if they claimed to practice white witchcraft. White witchcraft occult groups do not harm other people in pursuit of their own desires.

The common denominator of both sub-categories of black witchcraft: fulfilling of desires in evil and harmful ways to other people
